John is a fellow entrepreneur who has a proven track record of building partnerships with innovative leaders who are willing to break from the traditional norms and pursue business opportunities via unchartered waters.
John was one of the founding employees of NovaMed, Inc., a healthcare services company that successfully consolidated physician practices and outpatient surgical facilities in 20 states. John began working with NovaMed prior to it generating any revenue, was its seventh employee, and helped grow the company into a publicly traded company (Nasdaq: NOVA) with nearly 800 employees that was ultimately acquired and taken private by HIG Capital, a private equity firm based in Miami, Florida.
John was one of four senior NovaMed executives retained by HIG Capital to lead the integration of NovaMed into Surgery Partners, an existing portfolio company of HIG Capital. Four years later, John exited Surgery Partners in connection with Surgery Partners’ acquisition of Symbion, Inc. and relocation of the corporate headquarters from Chicago to Nashville. At the time of his exit, John was the longest-tenured executive remaining from NovaMed’s founding. During John’s nearly 19 years as General Counsel with NovaMed and Surgery Partners, John structured, negotiated, documented and closed over 100 acquisitions and divestitures.
John graduated from the University of Michigan with a B.A. in Economics, and received his law degree from Washington University in St. Louis. John and his wife, Kelly, live in Chicago near Wrigley Field and have three children.
